Ballia DM Declares August 19 as Local Holiday to Mark Sacrifice Day, Cancels Kartik Amavasya Leave

स्थानीय अवकाश घोषित, इस दिन बंद रहेंगे स्कूल-कॉलेज सहित सभी सरकारी कार्यालय, डीएम का आदेश जारी

Ballia, UP – In a major administrative decision, the District Magistrate (DM) of Ballia has announced that August 19 will now be observed every year as a local holiday in honor of Ballia Sacrifice Day. On this day, all government offices, schools, and colleges will remain closed across the district.

This new declaration comes with a significant change — the previously declared holiday on Kartik Amavasya (October 21, 2025) has been canceled. The DM clarified in his order that on Kartik Amavasya, all state government offices and educational institutions will function as usual.

Why August 19 is Important

August 19 holds a special place in Ballia’s history. During the Quit India Movement of 1942, freedom fighters from the district displayed extraordinary courage against British rule. Many revolutionaries laid down their lives, making Ballia a proud symbol of sacrifice in India’s independence struggle.

To honor this glorious legacy of martyrs, the district administration has declared August 19 as Ballia Sacrifice Day. The aim is to ensure that future generations remain connected to the sacrifices made by their ancestors.

Relief for Students and Teachers

The announcement has brought relief to teachers, government employees, and students, as they will now have an annual holiday on August 19. The move has also been welcomed by locals, who see it as a recognition of Ballia’s unique contribution to India’s freedom movement.

With this decision, Ballia will celebrate its own day of remembrance every year, ensuring the courage and sacrifice of its freedom fighters are never forgotten.

Local holiday declared, all government offices including school-colleges will be closed on this day
