Strong Earthquake Jolts Assam’s Nagaon District, Tremors Felt in Tezpur; Over 15 Buildings Collapse
Nagaon, Assam | August 18, 2025 – A 4.3 magnitude earthquake struck Assam’s Nagaon district on Monday afternoon, creating panic among locals. According to the National Center for Seismology, the epicenter was located 40 km from Tezpur at a depth of 35 km. Tremors were recorded at 12:19 PM.
This comes just a day after a 3.1 magnitude earthquake was reported in Churu, Rajasthan on Sunday, August 17.
Destruction Reported
The impact of the quake in Nagaon was severe, with more than 15 buildings collapsing in the affected region. Home Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that several people were injured in the incident. In a tragic development, an 81-year-old man was rescued alive from the debris but later succumbed to his injuries.
Local news channels, including NTV, broadcast visuals of a completely demolished building where rescue teams were working tirelessly to evacuate survivors from under the rubble.

Authorities have urged citizens to follow basic safety guidelines to minimize risks during such natural disasters:
