Conversation between Putin and Netanyahu

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently spoke on the phone. Both the leaders had a comprehensive discussion on the situation in the Middle East. In which special focus was on the situation in Gaza, Iran’s nuclear program and Syria.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu spoke on the phone. The ministry further said, in view of the ceasefire agreement and exchange of detained persons, the situation in the Middle East was discussed.

What issues were discussed?

According to Tass agency, a statement said that the two leaders had a serious conversation. There were discussions on the situation in Gaza, the ceasefire and exchange of prisoners, the status of Iran’s nuclear program and efforts to bring stability in Syria.

This call took place at a time when America’s diplomatic activities in the United Nations have increased. This week the US urged the Security Council to approve President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza plan. This plan includes an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces, release of hostages, temporary administration in Gaza under the International Board of Peace, demilitarization of the entire area and future large-scale reconstruction.

Discussion on regional issues

According to Israeli reports, the recent discussion was initiated by Putin. The talks—as in previous talks—focused on regional issues, although the Prime Minister’s Office did not provide any further details on the talks.

There was discussion regarding Gaza

The last conversation between Putin and Netanyahu took place in October, when the international discussion on Trump’s peace plan was at its peak. This proposal received widespread support at the conference held in Sharm el-Sheikh on 13 October. Trump presented it on September 29. Israel accepted it publicly. However, Hamas has not yet fully accepted all its conditions.
