Iran conducts major test of mobile emergency alert system

After the 12-day war with Israel in June, Iran is now openly preparing for any major conflict. The big trial of mobile phone emergency alert system across the country on Friday was a part of this preparation.

By sending test messages to selected mobile users, the government made it clear that it wants to keep its citizens alert and prepared for any unexpected situation in the coming months.

Why was the test done?

The June war had exposed many weaknesses in Iran’s emergency system. Especially in providing timely warning to the public. A limited number of mobile users received a test message from 10 am to 12 noon: This is a test message of the emergency alert system. The message appeared directly on the screen on many mobiles without any app. In some phones, the alarm tone or vibration is activated automatically. The government had already made it clear that there is no need for the public to take any action during the test. In the next phase, the reach of the alert system will be expanded and more mobile operators will be included. New exercises will be conducted on a large scale. Officials say that the dates of the next drills will be informed to the public in time.

Increased preparedness and strict warnings

In recent weeks, many senior Iranian officials have said that the region is again moving towards a major conflict.
