Why did Netanyahu’s special minister have to resign, the reason revealed in the letter

Ron Dermer submitted his resignation.

Israel’s Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, considered a close confidant of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has resigned on Tuesday. Dermer was playing an important role in the ongoing negotiations during the Gaza war and was very close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

After weeks of speculation in the Israeli media, his resignation has finally come today. Dermer took up this post at the end of 2022, before which he had been Israel’s ambassador to Washington. “I wish to inform you that I have decided to resign from the post of Minister of Strategic Affairs,” Dermer said in a two-page resignation letter to Netanyahu.

However, no response has been given yet by the Prime Minister’s Office on his resignation. But the letter has been released to the media.

had promised the family

American-born Dermer wrote in his resignation letter that when he took oath as minister in December 2022, he had promised his family to serve not more than two years. However, he extended his tenure twice with the permission of his family.

He wrote that the term was extended for the first time in June to work with Netanyahu to remove the dangerous threat of Iran’s military nuclear capability and the second time in October to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israelis held hostage there.

What will be the future of Dermer?

“I don’t know what I will do in the future, but I know one thing for sure. Whatever I do, I will continue to contribute to securing the future of the Jewish people,” Dermer wrote in the letter.

Dermer was one of Netanyahu’s most trusted advisors. He held talks with both the then Trump administration and Arab countries in the October ceasefire talks.

Dermer was Israel’s Ambassador to Washington from 2013-2021. His tenure overlapped with Republican President Donald Trump’s first term (2017–2021). Many Democrats believed that Dermer had become too close to the Republican Party during his tenure in Washington, damaging the bipartisan relations developed by previous envoys to Israel.
