Turkey’s C-130 military cargo plane met with an accident in Georgia on Tuesday. The plane had taken off from Azerbaijan. There were 20 people in it. It is not yet known how many people were killed or injured in the accident. The rescue team was immediately dispatched to the spot. All 20 people on board the plane are feared dead.

According to local media reports, there may be people from both Turkey and Azerbaijan on the plane, but the number is not clear. The plane crashed in the eastern Kakheti region of Georgia, which is located near the Turkey-Azerbaijan border.

Turkey-Azerbaijan started investigation

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan expressed condolences over the accident. He said, may the souls of the martyrs rest in peace. Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev spoke to Erdogan. Both the Turkish and Georgian governments have started investigating the matter.

The video of the accident is viral on social media, in which the plane was leaving a trail of white smoke before falling on the mountain. After the plane crash, a plume of thick black smoke was seen rising.

C-130 a military transport aircraft

The C-130 Hercules aircraft is made by American company Lockheed Martin. It is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft. It is designed to take off and land from less prepared runways. Its main function is to carry cargo, soldiers and equipment.

The C-130 is also used for gunship, airborne assault and reconnaissance missions. It is considered the main tactical airlifter in many armies of the world. The Turkish government has not yet shared any information about the cause of the accident or the nationality of the people on board the plane.
