Washington, D.C. – A high-stakes diplomatic meeting took place at the White House where U.S. President Donald Trump met with Ukraine’s President Wlodimir Zelensky amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. The meeting, attended by several European leaders, was convened shortly after Trump’s talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, signaling Washington’s attempt to reshape the narrative of global conflicts.
Trump’s India-Pakistan Remark
In a striking moment, Trump once again referred to India and Pakistan, crediting himself for playing a key role in averting a war between the two nuclear-armed nations. Referring to the 2019 Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent ceasefire, Trump said:
“I have finished 6 wars and I thought it would probably be the easiest. But this is a difficult war. India-Pakistan, we are talking about big countries … you look at Rwanda and Congo, it has been going on for 31 years. We have ended six wars, and even neutralized Iran’s nuclear capacity.”
Trump’s repeated reference to India-Pakistan drew sharp attention, as it is not the first time he has claimed credit for preventing escalation in South Asia.
“Russia-Ukraine War Is Going to End”
Turning to the core issue, Trump sounded confident that the Russia-Ukraine war is approaching an end. While refraining from giving a timeline, he suggested that both sides — President Zelensky and President Putin — were willing to move toward resolution.
“The war is about to end. This gentleman wants to end it, and Vladimir Putin also wants to eliminate it. The whole world is tired of this. We will get it up,” Trump declared.
Long-Term Peace Promise
Emphasizing a broader peace framework, Trump pledged that the U.S. would guarantee lasting stability in Europe.
“We will work with Ukraine, we will work with everyone. We are not talking about just two years of peace. We will ensure long-term peace. We have worked with Russia, and we will work with Ukraine,” he said.
Global Stakes
The White House meeting comes at a critical juncture, as the war in Ukraine continues to cause massive humanitarian and economic crises, while Russia’s actions have challenged NATO unity. Trump’s rhetoric suggests a bold claim of brokering peace on multiple fronts — from Eastern Europe to South Asia — though many analysts caution that his statements often mix diplomatic reality with political grandstanding.
