Trump Praises Modi, Jaishankar Responds: Indo-US Partnership a Top Priority

Jaishankar Reacts to Trump’s Praise of Modi

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has issued an important statement following former U.S. President Donald Trump’s positive remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India’s ties with the United States.

Speaking on the matter, Jaishankar emphasized that PM Modi has always considered the Indo-US partnership with utmost seriousness and importance.

“Prime Minister Modi is very serious about our relationship, and making a strong partnership with the U.S. has always been among his top priorities. The Prime Minister’s personal equation with President Trump has always been good,” Jaishankar noted.

He further added that India continues to engage deeply with the U.S. on multiple levels and that dialogue and cooperation between the two nations remain ongoing.

Importance of Indo-US Relations

Jaishankar’s comments highlight that India sees its relationship with the U.S. not only from a political lens but also as a partnership rooted in strategic, economic, and security cooperation.

Over the years, the Indo-US partnership has expanded across defense, trade, technology, energy, and education. In particular, both nations’ cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region is viewed as crucial in maintaining balance against China’s growing assertiveness.

Modi and Trump’s Personal Rapport

Prime Minister Modi and Donald Trump have long shared a warm personal relationship, evident in landmark events such as the ‘Howdy Modi’ rally in Houston and the ‘Namaste Trump’ event in Ahmedabad. These moments symbolized the strength of bilateral ties and the personal chemistry between the two leaders.

Jaishankar’s remarks signal that India remains committed to strengthening ties not only with Trump but also with the broader U.S. leadership, irrespective of political transitions.

Challenges but Stronger Bonds

While differences have arisen over issues such as trade tariffs, visa policies, and defense negotiations, Jaishankar made it clear that India continues to place the U.S. among its top foreign policy priorities.

The minister’s statement reaffirms India’s stance: despite challenges, the Indo-US strategic partnership is here to stay—and it remains central to India’s global strategy.
