Two people have been confirmed dead due to the storm. Due to Phung-Wong, it has been raining heavily on Lucan Island in the Philippines since Sunday evening. Winds are blowing at the speed of 185 to 230 km per hour.

Schools and government offices on the main island of Luzon will remain closed on Monday. About 300 flights have been canceled in Manila. Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro told people to follow evacuation orders. He warned that not doing so was dangerous. The work of taking people to safe places is still going on.

21st big storm this year

According to meteorologists, Typhoon Phung-Vong will bring at least 200 mm (8 inches) of rain in many parts. This is the 21st major storm in the Philippines this year. Earlier, 224 people were killed and 135 were missing due to Typhoon Kalmegi. Scientists say that due to the climate crisis, storms are becoming more powerful than before. Warmer oceans make storms stronger faster and more moisture in the warmer atmosphere leads to heavier rainfall.

Storm will impact Aurora province

The storm may have the greatest impact in Aurora province. Aries Ora, a resident there, installed sheets of wood and steel to protect his house. He said that due to landfall at night, the situation will be more dangerous as people will not be able to see the winds and surrounding events properly.

The storm is already showing its effects in Catanduanes. Sea waves are coming on the roads and many places are filled with flood water. Edson Casarino, a resident there, said that the waves were breaking loudly since morning and it seemed as if the ground was shaking. In Guinobatan city of Albay province, water was flowing rapidly on the streets and many houses were submerged.
