SCO Summit 2025:SCO Summit 2025: India and China’s Role in Ukraine Praised by Putin – What Will Trump Do Next?

At the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025 in Tianjin, China, Russian President Vladimir Putin lauded the efforts of India and China in contributing to the search for solutions to the ongoing Ukraine crisis.

Putin emphasized that Moscow gives “high importance” to the initiatives and mediation efforts of New Delhi and Beijing, calling their role “significant in promoting dialogue and stability.”

Putin Blames the West Over Ukraine

During his address, Putin accused Western countries of fueling the conflict by trying to push Ukraine into NATO.

“No country can ensure its security at the expense of another. Western attempts have directly contributed to the Ukraine crisis,” he said.

SCO’s Growing Influence

Putin underlined the expanding global role of the SCO, calling it a cornerstone for a “new Eurasian security system,” which he said is replacing Eurocentric and Atlantic security models.

He further highlighted:

  • Rising use of national currencies in trade among SCO members.

  • Growing economic cooperation within the bloc.

  • SCO’s role in resolving international disputes.

India and China in Focus

Before the summit, Putin reaffirmed his commitment to stronger ties with China, expressing eagerness to discuss the full range of bilateral issues with President Xi Jinping.

In a warm exchange, PM Narendra Modi, Putin, and Xi shared cordial moments ahead of the session. Modi, in his bilateral meeting with Putin, noted:

“I always feel that meeting you is memorable. We have had constant communication on several issues, with many high-level meetings regularly between our sides.”

Modi also reminded Putin that 1.4 billion Indians are eagerly awaiting his visit to India in December for the upcoming 23rd bilateral summit.

What About Trump?

Putin’s praise for India and China comes at a time when U.S. President Donald Trump has adopted a harder stance on India by imposing steep tariffs. Analysts now question how Trump will react to the growing closeness of Russia, India, and China within the SCO framework.

The SCO Summit 2025 has once again highlighted the shifting balance of global power, with India and China emerging as key players in resolving international conflicts. Putin’s endorsement of their role not only signals a stronger Eurasian partnership but also raises questions about the next move from Washington.
