The Pakistani government said that the Rohingyas who went to Pakistan in 1960 should now take Saudi citizenship. Because of this there was an uproar. Saudi said that we cannot give citizenship to Rohingya. Pakistan should either take these people home or renew their passports.

There was a dispute going on between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan regarding this issue for the last 13 years. Now Pakistan, accepting its mistake, has announced to give legal status to 2.5 lakh Rohingyas. With this decision, the number of citizens of Pakistan has also increased.

Why are Rohingya a problem for the world?

Rohingya are originally residents of Arakan. People of Rohingya community lived here since the 9th century. However, Myanmar does not accept this. Around the 19th century, Rohingyas moved to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh in search of work. Most of them are living as refugees. According to the UN, there are currently more than 12 lakh Rohingya refugees.

After Myanmar, Bangladesh and Pakistan have the largest population of Rohingya community. Rohingyas also migrated to Arab countries in search of jobs from Pakistan. In recent times, no country wants to accommodate the Rohingya community. Bangladesh has raised this issue several times in the UN.
