The White House has indicated that America is considering every option to take control of Greenland. Which also includes military option.

This statement has created a stir not only in Denmark but in the entire NATO. This statement has come at a time when the world is already under tension due to the military action taken by America in Venezuela and the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro.

What was said by the White House?

White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt said on Tuesday that President Trump considers Greenland very important to America’s national security. He argues that control over Greenland is necessary to stop powers like China and Russia in the Arctic region. According to Levitt, the President and his team are discussing several options to acquire Greenland. And if needed, the President is within his power to use the US Army.

Buy or capture? America has all options

However, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio showed some leniency and said that at present there is no immediate plan for military action. He indicated that America’s first choice is still to buy Greenland from Denmark. But the different voices of the White House and the Foreign Ministry have made it clear that the Trump administration is not completely rejecting any option.

Strong opposition from Denmark and Greenland

Both Denmark and Greenland have rejected America’s claims outright. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Loke Rasmussen said that some statements from America may be based on misunderstandings. He has demanded talks with US Secretary of State Rubio so that the situation can be cleared.

Why was there an uproar in NATO?

One thing is making this whole matter the most serious. Greenland and Denmark are both NATO members, and so is the United States. If the US takes military action against Greenland, it would be the first time in history that a NATO member state would attack another NATO member state. This is why there is a wave of concern across Europe. Many leaders of Europe have issued a joint statement appealing to America to respect the situation in Greenland.

Is NATO on the verge of collapse?

Till now NATO was preparing to deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin. But after this stance of Trump, the situation has become such that the biggest threat to NATO has arisen not from outside but from within. Political analysts believe that if Trump tries to forcibly occupy Greenland, it will cause a deep blow to NATO’s unity and may even lead to the breakup of the alliance.
