New York, 26 September — In a powerful rebuttal at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), India slammed Pakistan over its repeated false claims on Kashmir and the Indus Water Treaty, as well as its continued sponsorship of cross-border terrorism. Petal Gehlot, India’s representative at the UN, delivered a sharp and fact-filled response that dismantled Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s allegations, exposing Islamabad’s double standards on terrorism.
During his address, Sharif had raised the Kashmir issue, accused India of treaty violations, and presented Pakistan as a victim of terrorism. India’s reply, led by Gehlot, made it clear that Pakistan’s theatrics could not hide its role as the “epicenter of global terrorism.”
🇮🇳 “No Drama Can Hide the Truth”: Petal Gehlot’s Stern Words
In a strongly worded statement, Petal Gehlot said:
“His Majesty President, the dramatics showed by the Prime Minister of Pakistan in this meeting this morning once again reveal the centrality of terrorism in his foreign policy. But the truth cannot be hidden by any drama or lie.”
Gehlot reminded the global community that Pakistan had defended a Pakistani-sponsored terrorist organization responsible for a massacre at tourist destinations in Jammu and Kashmir earlier this year. She noted that on 25 April 2025, Pakistan blocked action against this group in the UN Security Council, further proving its lack of sincerity in counterterrorism efforts.
🧨 India Highlights Pakistan’s Long Terror History
Gehlot’s statement didn’t stop there. She cited Pakistan’s decades-long record of harboring terrorists and extremist groups:
“A country that has been sponsoring and exporting terrorism for a long time now does not hesitate to make the most ridiculous statements. It hid Osama bin Laden for a decade while pretending to be a partner in the fight against terrorism. Its ministers have recently admitted that they have been running terrorist camps for decades. It is no surprise that this double game has now reached the Prime Minister’s level.”
India’s representative underlined that Pakistan’s credibility on terrorism is deeply compromised. By providing safe havens to terror outfits while simultaneously claiming to be a victim of terror, Islamabad is trying to play both sides — but the world is no longer buying it.
🕌 Sharif Raises Kashmir Again — India Responds Firmly
As expected, Shahbaz Sharif used his UNGA speech to once again raise the Kashmir issue, claiming support for what he called the “fundamental rights of self-determination” of the Kashmiri people. He alleged that “Indian atrocities” would eventually end and demanded a UN-monitored referendum.
India firmly rejected these statements. Gehlot reminded the Assembly that Kashmir is an internal matter of India, and Pakistan has no locus standi to comment. She also pointed out Pakistan’s hypocrisy in accusing others of human rights violations while suppressing minorities and dissent within its own borders.
💧 Indus Water Treaty Accusations Rejected
Sharif also accused India of violating the Indus Water Treaty after the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025, calling any violation “equivalent to war.” India had suspended participation in the treaty — signed in 1960 with World Bank mediation — following the attack in which 26 civilians were killed.
Gehlot made it clear that this suspension was directly linked to Pakistan’s continued support for terrorism. New Delhi has stated that the treaty will only be restored when Islamabad takes verifiable action to end cross-border terror.
🌍 India’s Strong Global Message
Petal Gehlot’s speech is being widely praised in diplomatic circles for its clarity and assertiveness. By exposing Pakistan’s double standards at a global platform like the UNGA, India has sent a strong message: terrorism and false propaganda will not go unchallenged.
As global attention turns toward South Asia, India’s firm stance underlines its commitment to fighting terrorism and safeguarding its sovereignty, both diplomatically and strategically.
