This City of Pakistan Will Be Drowned in the Next 24 Hours! Meteorological Department of Pakistan Issues High Alert for Karachi

Karachi | September 29, 2025 — A fresh wave of heavy rains and thunderstorms has put Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi, on edge. The Meteorological Department of Pakistan (PMD) has issued a weather alert that has created panic among residents and authorities alike. According to PMD’s latest forecast, the financial capital could experience light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours, raising fears of urban flooding once again.

🔴 Karachi Braces for New Flood Threat

The Meteorological Department of Pakistan warned that Karachi’s temperature, which reached 38°C on Monday, combined with the incoming rain systems, could lead to flash floods in low-lying areas. The alert has triggered emergency meetings within Karachi’s municipal administration as they prepare for potential waterlogging and power outages.

Karachi, home to over 20 million people, has witnessed repeated flood crises in recent years due to poor drainage infrastructure and unplanned urban expansion. The city resembles a “water island” during intense downpours, with roads submerged and transportation coming to a halt.

🌪️ Dust Storms Accompanying Rainfall

The PMD also cautioned that dusty thunderstorms are expected to hit several districts across Sindh province.
According to the official statement, “There is a strong likelihood of rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds in Tharparkar, Umarkot, Badin, Sujawal, Thatta, Tando Mohammad Khan, and Hyderabad districts. Light and scattered rains may occur in Jamshoro, Matiari, Mirpurkhas, and Sanghar between September 29 and 30.”

These changing weather patterns are part of a broader monsoon system moving from the Arabian Sea, which has already drenched parts of southern Pakistan since June 26. Earlier this month, continuous rain spells submerged Karachi’s roads from September 8–10, affecting thousands of families.

🌡️ Hot Weather Intensifying Urban Flooding Risk

While rains are predicted, Karachi’s temperature is also unusually high for late September. PMD data shows Sunday’s temperature at 36°C, rising to 38°C on Monday. Hot and humid conditions are expected to continue through Tuesday, adding discomfort for residents already grappling with infrastructure failures.

This combination of extreme heat followed by heavy rain often leads to steam-induced storms and rapid water accumulation, overwhelming Karachi’s outdated drainage system within hours.

🏚️ Recent Flooding Displaced Thousands

Karachi has already suffered significant damage this monsoon season. Earlier in September, torrential rains led to the overflowing of the Gadap River, displacing hundreds of families from coastal areas. Tragically, several fatalities were reported due to drowning incidents in Gadap and surrounding neighborhoods.

Residents in areas such as Korangi, Orangi Town, and Malir have expressed fear that the upcoming rainfall could worsen the situation. “We are still pumping water out of our homes from the last rains. If it rains again like before, our streets will turn into rivers overnight,” said local resident Aslam Khan.

🆘 Authorities on High Alert

Karachi’s city administration and disaster management teams have been placed on “high alert”. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has deployed additional drainage pumps, while the Sindh government has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm period.

Emergency helplines have been reactivated, and the Pakistan Navy has been instructed to stay ready for potential rescue operations in low-lying coastal zones.

⚠️ Meteorological Department of Pakistan Warns of Escalating Climate Patterns

Experts from the Meteorological Department of Pakistan say that climate change is amplifying extreme weather events in Pakistan, particularly in southern cities like Karachi. Irregular monsoon timings, rising sea temperatures, and urban sprawl are making the city increasingly vulnerable to flooding.

PMD has urged citizens to closely follow weather updates, secure their homes, and report emergencies promptly.
