Denmark objected

Denmark’s Ambassador to the US, Jesper Møller Sorensen, responded to this post and said that America and Denmark are old and trusted allies. He said that both the countries work together for the security of the Arctic region. He said that America’s security is linked to the security of Greenland and Denmark.

He also said that Denmark has increased its defense budget to about $ 13.7 billion in 2025, so that the security of the Arctic and North Atlantic region can be strengthened. He also made it clear that Denmark expects full respect for its territorial boundaries and sovereignty.

Appointment of special envoy for Greenland

Donald Trump recently appointed Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as America’s special envoy to Greenland. Landry had thanked Trump for this appointment in December and said that it would be an honor for him to make Greenland a part of America. He also supported the US action to remove the Maduro government in Venezuela and called it America’s fight against drugs.

Ever since Trump became President, his statements regarding Greenland have been worrying European countries. Greenland is considered very important strategically, because there is a huge possibility of finding mineral wealth here in the future. Apart from this, there is also America’s northernmost military base, Pitufik, where US Vice President JD Vance visited in March.

Trump has talked about occupying Greenland

Donald Trump has also said that he does not rule out the possibility of military action to occupy Greenland. In an interview, he had said that America needs Greenland very much for international security. After these statements, Denmark’s intelligence agency even informed America about the security risk, which is considered to be a sign of a major change in the relations between America and Europe.

The Prime Ministers of Denmark and Greenland have clearly stated that the borders and sovereignty of any country are decided under international law and no other country has the right to forcibly occupy it. Most of the approximately 57 thousand population of Greenland want independence from Denmark, but do not want to become a part of America.
