New Delhi/Indore, August 14, 2025:
In what is being hailed as a historic moment for Indian entrepreneurship, Indore-based JK Enterprises, the maker of London Pride whiskey, emerged victorious in a five-year-long legal tussle against global spirits giant Parno Records, the creators of the world-renowned Blenders Pride.
The dispute, famously dubbed “The Battle of Pride”, began in 2020 when Parno Records accused JK Enterprises of trademark infringement, claiming that London Pride was deceptively similar to Blenders Pride. The multinational giant sought to have the Indian brand removed from the market, asserting exclusive rights over the word “Pride.”
However, JK Enterprises stood its ground. After securing favorable judgments in the Indore District Court and the Madhya Pradesh High Court, the matter escalated to the Supreme Court of India.
On August 14, 2025, a bench of the Hon’ble Supreme Court upheld the lower court rulings, stating emphatically that “Pride” is a generic term that no single company can monopolize. The verdict affirmed that London Pride does not infringe upon Blenders Pride’s trademark in any manner.
“This is not just JK’s victory—it is the victory of every Indian entrepreneur who dares to dream,” said Ms. Saloni Chhabra, Director of JK Enterprises. “We stood against a global superpower and proved that fairness and originality can prevail. This judgment will inspire countless Indian brands to fight for their rightful place in the market.”
The ruling is expected to serve as a landmark precedent in future intellectual property disputes, particularly where global corporations attempt to exert dominance over local businesses through legal intimidation.
Analysts believe the decision could reshape the dynamics of India’s liquor and spirits industry, empowering regional manufacturers to build and protect their brands without succumbing to international pressure.
With this win, London Pride has not only secured its survival but also cemented its place as a symbol of Indian resilience against global giants—a story that will resonate in boardrooms, courtrooms, and distilleries alike.
