Kremlin Rejects Ukraine’s Security Guarantee: Says West Cannot Protect Kyiv Amid Ongoing War

The war between Russia and Ukraine shows no sign of ending, despite repeated global interventions. Even US President Donald Trump attempted to mediate between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but without success.

On Friday (5 September), the Kremlin issued a sharp statement questioning the ability of Western nations to provide any kind of security guarantee to Ukraine. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, speaking to Russian media, said:

“Can foreign, especially European and American military troops, give protection and guarantee to Ukraine? Not at all, they cannot give.”

NATO, Expansion, and Russia’s Stance

The Kremlin’s remarks come at a time when NATO allies and European leaders are discussing defense commitments for Kyiv. Russia, however, has repeatedly argued that NATO expansion and Western involvement are the root causes of the ongoing conflict.

France and Global Allies Push for Security Guarantees

Despite Moscow’s rejection, efforts from the West continue. According to a report by France 24, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that 26 countries have expressed readiness to offer Ukraine security guarantees, including the deployment of troops to prevent further Russian incursions.

“Today, 26 countries have talked about supporting Ukraine. This is the first time concrete steps are being taken for Ukraine. The deployment of soldiers will be to prevent any kind of invasion,” Macron said.

Human and Economic Toll on Ukraine

The prolonged conflict has devastated Ukraine, with heavy civilian and military casualties. Cities have been struck by missile and drone attacks, while infrastructure damage has left the nation struggling economically and socially.

The Impact

The Kremlin’s statement underlines a widening rift: Russia insists Western guarantees are ineffective, while Ukraine’s allies are moving toward stronger commitments. This clash raises fears of further escalation, as Moscow views foreign troop deployment as a direct threat to its security.

With Ukraine caught between Russian aggression and uncertain Western promises, the question remains: Can international guarantees truly deter Moscow, or will the war continue without resolution?
