Gaza City, Sept 6 – In another escalation of the ongoing conflict, Israeli fighter jets struck a 15-storey building in Gaza City on Saturday, reducing it to rubble within seconds. Eyewitness videos of the attack, showing the high-rise collapsing in smoke and debris, have gone viral across social media platforms. This marks the second major tower strike in the city within 24 hours.
Israeli Army Statement
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the airstrike, stating that the targeted high-rise, known as the Sussi Tower, was being used by Hamas. According to the IDF, the building housed surveillance posts, secret monitoring equipment, and explosives intended for attacks on Israeli soldiers.
The military added that precautionary steps were taken before the strike to minimize civilian harm. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz also shared the video of the attack online, declaring, “We are continuing.”
Evacuation Warning to Citizens
Before the assault, IDF officials issued urgent warnings to Gaza City residents, advising them to relocate to designated “humanitarian zones” in the southern Al-Masi region. Israeli spokesperson Avichay Adraee, speaking in Arabic, urged civilians to evacuate immediately ahead of “precise, targeted attacks” on Hamas strongholds.
Gaza Declared War Zone
Israel has formally declared Gaza City a war zone and called on residents to leave. Just a day earlier, Israeli jets struck the Muthaha Tower in the Rimal neighborhood, which the IDF also accused Hamas of using for operational planning. Satellite images revealed makeshift tents for displaced families near the targeted area, raising further concerns about civilian casualties.
Rising Military Action
The latest strikes come as Israel mobilizzes thousands of reservists and intensifies operations to dismantle Hamas infrastructure. Domestically, the campaign faces criticism over risks to Israeli hostages still held in Gaza, while international observers are increasingly alarmed about the worsening humanitarian crisis.
Humanitarian Toll
The war, triggered by Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack that killed around 1,200 Israelis and led to 251 abductions, has left Gaza in ruins. The enclave’s Health Ministry reports over 64,000 Palestinian deaths since the conflict began, with women and children making up more than half of the casualties.
