India-Pakistan T20 in Doubt: PIL in Supreme Court Seeks Cancellation After Terror Attack

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court of India demanding the cancellation of the upcoming India-Pakistan T20 match scheduled to be played in Dubai on September 14 as part of the Asia Cup.

The petition, filed by four law students under the leadership of Urvashi Jain, argues that holding a cricket match with Pakistan so soon after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Vermilion goes against the spirit of national dignity and public sentiment.

“Cricket Not More Than the Sacrifice of Citizens”

According to the plea, cricket cannot be valued above national interest, the lives of citizens, or the sacrifices of armed forces personnel. The petitioners also sought directions for the implementation of the National Sports Administration Act, 2025, claiming that national security must take precedence over sports diplomacy.

The case has been filed through advocates Sneha Rani, Abhishek Verma, and Mohammad Anas Chaudhary.

Appeal for Supreme Court Intervention

The petitioners have urged the Supreme Court to intervene and decide whether the high-voltage India-Pakistan clash, often regarded as the biggest rivalry in world cricket, should proceed as scheduled. The matter is expected to be listed for urgent hearing ahead of the match date.

With emotions running high, uncertainty now looms large over the Asia Cup’s most anticipated fixture.

India Off to a Dominant Start

Meanwhile, India showcased its dominance on the field in its opening Asia Cup match. Playing against hosts United Arab Emirates, India secured a massive 9-wicket victory at the Dubai International Stadium.

  • Kuldeep Yadav starred with a magical spell of 4/7

  • Shivam Dube chipped in with 3/4

  • The UAE folded for just 57 runs in 13.1 overs

In response, India chased down the target in only 4.3 overs, with Abhishek Sharma (30 off 16), Shubman Gill (20 off 9), and captain Suryakumar Yadav (7 off 5)* sealing the win.

The team’s emphatic performance sets the stage for what could be a blockbuster encounter—if the Supreme Court allows the India-Pakistan clash to go ahead.
