India, Japan Demand Accountability for Pahalgam Terror Attack, Call for Action Against Terrorism

In a significant diplomatic stance, India and Japan have joined forces in strongly condemning the terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, earlier this year. Following the summit between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, the two countries issued a joint statement on Friday, expressing their collective condemnation of the attack and emphasizing the urgent need for justice.

The statement called for those responsible for the Pahalgam attack—its organizers, financial backers, and perpetrators—to be held accountable without delay. The attack, which took place on April 22, 2025, claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians, leaving the two nations deeply distressed. While The Resistance Front (TRF) claimed responsibility for the attack, both leaders underscored the necessity of swift action against cross-border terrorism and its masterminds.

“All forms of terrorism, including cross-border terrorism, are unequivocally condemned,” stated the joint declaration, reiterating the importance of joint efforts in combating international terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed, Al Qaeda, and ISIS/Daesh, which remain active across borders. The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to a united front against terrorism and extremism, calling for concrete action against these UN-listed terrorist organizations.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his sorrow over the devastating loss of life and reiterated India’s steadfast position against terrorism. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ishiba conveyed Japan’s solidarity and deep concern over the tragedy. Both leaders agreed that terrorism should not be tolerated, and perpetrators should face the full force of international justice.

Apart from addressing the Pahalgam attack, the statement also focused on broader geopolitical concerns, including the ongoing war in Ukraine. The two nations reaffirmed their commitment to a peaceful resolution in Ukraine, advocating for a permanent ceasefire and respect for international law and the United Nations Charter. The leaders also expressed their concern over the deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and the release of all hostages.

In this powerful display of international cooperation, India and Japan not only condemned the specific terrorist act but also signaled a broader commitment to peace, stability, and security on the global stage.
