Torrential Rains in Next 18 Hours: IMD Issues Alert in 25 States, Flood Threat Looms

In the next 24 hours, these 17 districts will rain with thunderstorms, Meteorological Department released alert

New Delhi, Sept 8, 2025 – The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nationwide alert warning of torrential rains across 25 states in the next 18 hours. The sudden change in weather has created a dual situation—while many states are battling flood-like conditions due to continuous heavy rainfall, other regions are struggling with rising humidity and heat.

Delhi-NCR: Clouds Return After Humidity Spike

After days of sticky humidity, the capital and its adjoining areas may see light to moderate showers today, with 88% chances of rain, according to IMD. Delhi’s maximum temperature is expected to touch 35.2°C. However, from September 9–10, the weather will remain dry and hot, troubling residents with excessive heat and sweat. Relief may come on September 11–13, when cloudy skies and fresh showers are expected.

Uttar Pradesh: Alert in Western Districts

In Uttar Pradesh, IMD has issued an alert for heavy rainfall till September 10, especially in western UP. Districts including Noida, Ghaziabad, and Baghpat have been placed under high vigilance. The department has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather.

Bihar: Thunderstorm Danger & Heavy Rains Ahead

Bihar is expected to experience cloudy weather today, but from September 9 onwards, heavy rainfall will lash multiple districts. IMD has predicted thunderstorms and lightning in East Champaran, West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Katihar, Purnia, Vaishali, Siwan, Muzaffarpur, and Samastipur. Citizens have been warned to stay indoors and avoid open fields during thunderstorms.

Rajasthan: Red Alert in 9 Districts

A red alert has been issued for parts of Rajasthan, including Rajsamand, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Sirohi, Udaipur, Dungarpur, Pali, Jodhpur, and Barmer. Torrential rains here could trigger flash floods and severe waterlogging, with residents urged to remain in safe zones and avoid unnecessary travel.

Madhya Pradesh: Brief Relief from Rains

After days of relentless downpours causing flooding and traffic disruption, Madhya Pradesh is finally expected to see some relief. No major alert has been issued today, signaling a temporary pause in extreme weather.

Uttarakhand & Himachal Pradesh: Hills in Crisis

In the hill states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, continuous rains have triggered landslides, swollen rivers, and road blockages, paralyzing traffic. Both states are facing flood-like conditions, with dozens reported dead and many injured. Rescue teams are active, but operations are hampered by the incessant rainfall.

⚠️ The IMD has urged citizens across all affected states to remain alert, avoid risky travel, and follow local administration guidelines as heavy rains continue to lash large parts of the country.
