Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has once again stirred controversy with his satirical remarks after Pakistan’s back-to-back defeats against India in the Asia Cup 2025. Speaking from jail, Khan taunted Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Army Chief General Asim Munir, saying that the only way Pakistan could beat India in cricket was if they themselves stepped onto the pitch as openers.
Imran Khan’s sister, Alima Khan, revealed the comments to reporters on Monday (September 22, 2025). She explained that her brother was frustrated over Pakistan’s poor performance but chose humor to underline his criticism of the country’s leadership.
According to Alima, Imran Khan joked:
“If Pakistan wants to defeat India, then Army Chief Asim Munir and PCB President Mohsin Naqvi should open the batting. With them, former Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa and Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raza should serve as umpires.”
Taking his satire further, Khan also proposed that Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar should act as the third umpire.
The remarks come after Pakistan’s disappointing run in Dubai, where the team lost twice to arch-rivals India in the same tournament. While the cricketing defeats were on the field, Khan’s words have turned the spotlight onto the off-field political tensions in Pakistan.
By ridiculing the nation’s top officials, the jailed former Prime Minister highlighted his discontent with the establishment’s influence over Pakistan’s institutions, cleverly wrapping criticism in the language of cricket — the sport he once led Pakistan to World Cup glory in 1992.
