Heavy rain and stormy weather caused sudden floods in Mecca and surrounding areas in Saudi Arabia. Videos of flood are viral on social media. It is seen that strong streams of mud and water are flowing on the roads. Due to heavy rains, roads were submerged and many cars got stuck in water. Some people were seen leaving their vehicles and running towards safe places.

Heavy trucks were moving with difficulty on the motorway amid strong winds and rain. Local media reported that stormy rains are continuing in the northern and western parts of the country. According to the Meteorological Department, rain will continue till Thursday which may become more intense till the weekend.

Coastal cities most affected

The weather will be most affected in the coastal cities of Mecca, Jeddah and Medina. Winds blew at a speed of 50 km per hour in some areas on Wednesday night. During this period, sea waves 2 to 2.5 meters high arose. The Meteorological Department has also warned of heavy rain in Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha and Mecca areas. There is a possibility of flood with hail and strong winds.
