Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a tour of South Africa. During this time on Friday he met the Indian community living there. Let us tell you that Narendra Modi has arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa on Friday for the G20 Summit, where upon his arrival, South African indentured song ‘Ganga Maiya’ was performed in front of him.

The Prime Minister listened to this song with great curiosity and praised the performance and also said that it was a very happy and emotional experience. PM Modi shared the video on Instagram, in which he can be seen enjoying the cultural tribute. He told that this song shows the courage and memory of the early Indian community in South Africa.

He said that what made the performance even more special was that it also included the Tamil version of the traditional song. Which is a tribute to the different linguistic roots of the Indian-origin community in South Africa.

Why is the song special?

The song ‘Ganga Maiya’ holds a special place for the Indian community living in South Africa. Talking about this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “This song reflects the hope and unwavering courage of those who came here many years ago. Through these songs and bhajans, they kept India alive in their hearts.”
