The International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh has sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death. India has given the first reaction on this. The Indian Foreign Ministry said that we have noted the decision pronounced against Hasina. As a close neighbour, India is committed to the best interests of the people of Bangladesh, such as peace, democracy, inclusion and stability. For this, India will always keep talking with all parties.

Bangladesh Foreign Ministry wrote a letter to India. Based on this decision Sheikh beautiful lady Bangladesh’s legal advisor Professor Asif Nazrul said that if India continues to harbor this mass murderer, then India will have to understand that this is a hostile, extremely condemnable behavior against Bangladesh and the people of Bangladesh.

Hasina accused of genocide

Hasina has been sentenced to death on five charges including genocide and crimes against humanity. Two of Hasina’s associates, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chaudhry Abdullah Al-Mamun, have also been sentenced. Asaduzzaman Khan has been sentenced to death and former IGP Abdullah Al-Mamun has been sentenced to 5 years in prison.

Mamun is in custody and has become a government witness. Hasina has taken refuge in India after the violence in Bangladesh in August 2024.

What legal option does Hasina have?

Hasina can file a review appeal against the tribunal’s decision in the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. If the review appeal is rejected, the decision becomes final. The legislation allows people to seek pardon from the President of Bangladesh. If the President rejects the pardon application, the death order is carried out.

What did Hasina say on death sentence?

Hasina has expressed displeasure over the court’s decision. He said that the decisions given against me were given by a rigged tribunal, which is being run by an unelected and without public opinion government. These decisions are partisan and politically motivated.
