Election date has arrived in Nepal, nomination on 20th January, voting on 5th March, notification issued

Nepal’s Election Commission released the schedule of parliamentary elections to be held in March on Sunday. According to a notice issued by the Election Commission, candidates will have to file nomination for the House of Representatives elections on January 20 from 10 am to 6 pm. The list of candidates will be published after 5 pm on the same day.

The time for filing objection against any candidate is fixed from 10 am to 3 pm on January 21. The verified list of candidates will be published the next day.

Candidates who wish to withdraw their names can do so till 1 pm on January 23. After this, the final list of candidates will be published at 3 pm on the same day and candidates will be officially allotted election symbols.

According to the Election Commission, elections will be held on March 5. Voting will start at seven in the morning and end at five in the evening. According to the Nepalese Constitution, 165 members of the House of Representatives are elected through direct method. Elections have become necessary after KP Sharma Oli stepped down from the post of Prime Minister on September 9.

Protests by Gen Z against corruption and demanding the lifting of bans on social media turned violent, leaving 76 people dead in two days. Sushila Karki took oath as the Prime Minister of the interim government on 12 September. Gen Z is the generation born between 1997 and 2012.
