Communal violence in Nepal.

Curfew has been imposed in some parts of Birgunj adjacent to the Indian border in Nepal after increasing communal tension. The administration extended it till January 6. Officials say that if the situation does not improve even after this, the curfew will be extended. It is being told that curfew was imposed in Birgunj city of Parsa district a day after the demonstrations turned violent over a video viral on social media.

Incidents of violent clashes between Hindu and Muslim religious organizations have been reported in many different parts of Birgunj. Seeing the tense situation, the Chief Officer of Parsa District Office had imposed prohibitory order in Birgunj city till further orders but if the situation does not become normal then it will be extended further. In view of the tense situation in Birgunj, security arrangements have been tightened on the Raxaul border of India and Nepal. Army soldiers are keeping an eye on every activity on the border.

Ban on gathering, procession and demonstration

According to a notice signed by Parsa District Office Chief Officer Bhola Dahal, there is a complete ban on holding any kind of gathering, procession and demonstration in the designated areas to maintain peace and security. The notice said that the restricted area is from the bus park area in the east to Sirsia Bridge in the west and from Power House Chowk in the north to Shankaracharya Gate in the south. Warned that strict action will be taken as per law against any person violating the prohibitory order.

Viral video incites violence

A video of anti-social elements attacking a mosque in a part of Birgunj in Nepal was made and went viral. In protest against this, minority people in Birgunj city protested by burning tires at various places in the city. Also raised slogans. Meanwhile, when the police stopped them, they also threw stones. In which half a dozen policemen were injured. After this, people from Hindu organizations also started protesting. After which the situation in the city became tense and the administration had to impose curfew.

Nepal Home Ministry issued a press release saying that Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multilingual, multi-religious, multicultural country. Everyone should live together. Anti-social elements who are disturbing the mutual harmony in the country will be identified and brought under the ambit of law and action will be taken.
