A march was taken out today in Bangladesh in connection with the murder of student leader Sharif Usman Hadi. His party Inquilab Manch organized a one-day march in Dhaka on Tuesday demanding justice. In this, a demand was made to cancel the work permits of all Indians living in Bangladesh.

According to the Dhaka Tribune newspaper, as part of its four demands, the Inquilab Manch has also demanded the return of the alleged killers who it claims have taken refuge in India. The party says that if India refuses to hand them over, Bangladesh should approach the International Court of Justice. Indian officials have rejected claims that Hadi’s killers had entered India, saying there is no evidence of illegal border crossing.

What were the demands of the protesters?

The one-day march was named ‘March for Justice’. The newspaper quoted the organizers as saying that the rally started from Shahbag at around 11:30 am, in which the workers will return to Shahbag in the evening in 10 pickup vans and on foot, passing through several major intersections including Science Lab, Mohammadpur, Mirpur-10, Uttara, Bashundhara, Badda, Rampura and Jatrabari. People taking part in the rally said that the purpose of the demonstration was to insist on expediting the investigation into Hadi’s murder. He demanded that all those concerned, including the murderers, conspirators, accomplices and those who harbored them, be prosecuted before the February 12 parliamentary elections.

Protestors raised slogans

During the march, protesters chanted ‘We will not let Hadi’s blood go in vain’, ‘Why is my brother lying in a grave while the murderer goes free?’ And raised slogans like ‘Red and green flag, flag of revolution – you can see Hadi’. The protesters also demanded that alleged fascist collaborators within the Directorate General of Army Intelligence be identified, arrested and brought to justice.

Who was Osman Hadi

Sharif Osman Hadi (32) came into the limelight at the national level during the protests of July-August 2024. The government led by Sheikh Hasina had fallen after violent protests. Hadi was shot dead on 12 December 2025 during an election campaign in Dhaka. He was also a candidate in the parliamentary elections to be held on 12 February. Hadi was taken to Singapore for treatment, but he died on 18 December. Hadi’s assassination has sparked renewed political unrest in Bangladesh and strained relations with India, as some groups alleged Indian involvement in the crime. India has rejected these allegations as baseless.
