OnePlus Ends Hasselblad Deal, Builds In-House Imaging Tech for OnePlus 15

After four years of collaboration, OnePlus has officially ended its partnership with Swedish camera maker Hasselblad. This means the upcoming OnePlus 15 will no longer carry the Hasselblad branding that has been synonymous with the company’s flagships since 2021. Instead, OnePlus is betting big on its own imaging technology to redefine mobile photography.

DetailMax Engine: OnePlus’ New Camera Future

Confirming the development, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau revealed that the brand is working on a proprietary imaging system called the OnePlus DetailMax Engine. Designed to push advancements in computational photography and image processing, the system is still in its early stages but already showing “promising” results, according to Lau.

He added a note of appreciation for Hasselblad:
“To Hasselblad: Thank you for your craft, your trust, and for showing us the heights passion and precision can reach. The partnership delivered on its promises, and we remain open to future collaborations.”

OnePlus 15: What We Know So Far

The OnePlus 15 is shaping up as one of the company’s most ambitious flagships yet. Early leaks suggest:

  • Design: A flatter frame design inspired by the OnePlus 9 and 10 series, moving away from the recent curved builds.

  • Performance: Powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset, expected to debut later this month.

  • Battery: Rumors point to a silicon-carbon battery, possibly as large as 7,000mAh, a huge jump from current-generation flagships.

A Fresh Chapter for OnePlus

Notably, OnePlus is skipping the number “14” and moving straight to the OnePlus 15, which is expected to launch later this year. With a new design language, cutting-edge performance, and an in-house imaging system, the device could mark a new era for the brand as it moves beyond its reliance on external camera partners.
