The situation between Ukraine and Russia has become very delicate. Russia has alleged that 24 people were killed and 50 injured in the Ukrainian drone attack on New Year. The attack took place in a Russian-occupied village in the Kherson region. Three drones fell on a cafe and a hotel, one of which caught fire. Ukraine has not yet commented on the matter.

Russian officials condemned the attack. Russia Valentina Matviyenko, Speaker of the Upper House of the Russian Parliament, said that this attack strengthens Russia’s strategy and Russia will soon achieve its war objectives. Earlier, Russia had claimed that Ukraine carried out a long-range drone attack on an official residence of Russian President Putin, which Ukraine called false.

Efforts continue to stop rust

Meanwhile, European and American diplomatic efforts are also going on. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the peace deal is about 90% ready, but key issues in the remaining 10%, such as disputed territories, have yet to be decided. US President Trump’s special representative Steve Witkoff said he spoke with national security advisers of Britain, France, Germany and Ukraine. This included strengthening security guarantees and measures to prevent war.

Ukrainian negotiator Rustem Umerov said European and Ukrainian officials would meet again on Saturday, while Zelensky would meet with European leaders next week.

Russia also targeted Ukrainian areas

On the other hand, Russia carried out several drone attacks in the Odessa area. Civil buildings and infrastructure were targeted in these attacks. A two-storey residential building was damaged and a drone fell on the 17th floor of a high-rise, but did not explode. There were no casualties.

The Ukrainian Air Force said that out of 205 drones, 176 were shot down or suppressed overnight. A total of 24 strike drones were recorded at 15 different locations and the strike operation is still going on.
