Meeting of PM Modi and Australia’s PM Albanese in Johannesburg.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Johannesburg on Friday and the two leaders discussed progress towards cooperation in diverse areas including defense and security, critical minerals, trade and investment and people-to-people ties. Prime Minister Modi met Albanese, hours after arriving in South Africa to attend the G-20 leaders’ summit.
PM Modi said in a post on social media that he had a special meeting with Australian Prime Minister Albanese. This year marks the completion of five years of our countries’ strategic partnership and these years have seen transformative results, which have further deepened our cooperation.
Discussion took place on these issues
He said that during our talks today, emphasis was laid on three major areas, defense and security, nuclear energy and trade. Discussions were also held regarding education, cultural exchange etc. Albanese expressed grief over the recent terrorist attack in Delhi and the bus accident in Saudi Arabia in which several Indians were killed.

Albanese said that we have a lot to discuss, and our relationships are very strong. He said that I think we can further deepen economic relations. The progress of our defense and security relations is also very important.
Deeper cooperation between India and Australia
The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that the two leaders expressed satisfaction at the deep cooperation between India and Australia over the last five years after elevating the relationship to the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2020. It said Prime Minister Albanese expressed his solidarity with the recent terrorist attack in India and both leaders committed to strengthening the global fight against terrorism.
Meeting with the President and CEO of Naspers Company
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a meeting with the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Naspers Company on the sidelines of the summit of leaders of G-20 countries and discussed increasing investment in India’s digital ecosystem. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on social media that PM Modi met Coos Baker, Chairman of the South African multinational internet and technology company, and Fabricio Blosi, CEO.
