An important meeting of the India-Germany High Defense Committee was held in New Delhi on Tuesday. The meeting was co-chaired by India’s Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Germany’s Defense Ministry State Secretary Jens Plöttner. In this, there was a detailed discussion between the two countries on increasing security and defense cooperation.

In the meeting, emphasis was laid on increasing co-development and co-production of defense equipment, strengthening military cooperation and increasing joint military exercises in the future. Germany confirmed that it will take part in Tarang Shakti (a multinational air combat exercise) and MILAN (a multinational naval exercise) to be held in 2026. According to experts, Germany’s participation in these exercises will also deepen strategic balance and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

Germany praised India

India told the German delegation that it plays the role of first responder and net security provider in the Indian Ocean region. India’s regional policy is based on its vision Ocean Mutual and Holistic Advancement of Security and Growth Across Regions.

India is actively working with many maritime countries in areas such as defence, capacity building and disaster relief. Germany also appreciated India’s role in the Indian Ocean Region. It was made clear in the meeting that in view of modern warfare requirements, advanced technology and joint production is the way of the future.

Both countries agreed on the need to integrate defense industries and increase cooperation, especially in the low technology sector. India and Germany are completing 25 years of their strategic partnership this year. The growing cooperation in the field of defense and security reflects the strength of this long trusting relationship. This cooperation will further strengthen India-Germany defense relations and help in developing high-tech based military systems.
