What game is Bangladesh going to play with Pakistan, Yunus Home Secretary is sitting in Islamabad for 10 days

Mohammad Yunus and Home Secretary of Bangladesh

Bangladesh Home Secretary Naseemul Ghani is once again on a long tour of Pakistan, and this time his journey is raising a lot of questions. The internal situation in Bangladesh is already delicate, on top of that the International Crimes Tribunal has sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death. Due to which the tension in the country has increased further. In such an environment, Ghani’s second consecutive visit to Pakistan has become more important and mysterious.

Ghani’s visit is taking place at a time when Bangladesh’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Khalilur Rahman is going to meet his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval in New Delhi on 19 November. This meeting will take place during the Colombo Security Conclave. India’s security agencies are also keeping a close eye on this entire incident.

Ghani’s mysterious visit to Pakistan

Ghani has been in Pakistan since November 7 and this visit has entered the tenth day. Surprisingly, the interim government of Bangladesh led by Mohammad Yunus has not made any official announcement about this tour. Earlier, Ghani had also visited Islamabad on September 17, when he was welcomed by Pakistani Home Ministry’s Special Secretary Dawood Mohammad Baraich and Bangladesh High Commissioner Mohammad Iqbal Hussain Khan.

Closeness between the two countries during the era of Yunus

After the fall of Sheikh Hasina government on August 8, 2024 and Yunus taking charge, there has been a sudden increase in diplomatic and security cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh. Pakistani Foreign Secretary Aamna Baloch had reached Dhaka in April 2024. In January 2025, an ISI team led by a Major General came to Dhaka and also visited the areas around the Indian border. Bangladesh DGFI chief Major General Jahangir Alam has not visited Pakistan yet, but has met ISI officials in third countries including Türkiye.

Recently, Pakistani Navy Chief Admiral Naved Ashraf visited Dhaka between 8-12 November. Earlier, Bangladesh’s environment advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan had gone to Pakistan on November 46 and her husband and three relatives were also present with her.

What is hidden behind Ghani’s journey?

The biggest question regarding Ghani’s visit is that the government has not yet told which officials he is meeting in Pakistan, and whether any new negotiations are going on. Both countries have already agreed to abolish visas for diplomatic passport holders.
