The death of 42 Indians in a road accident on the Mecca-Medina highway has shaken everyone. 24 year old Mohammad Abdul Shoaib was not able to sleep in the bus going from Mecca to Medina, while all the other 45 passengers in the bus were in deep sleep. So, he moved to the seat next to the driver and was probably chatting with him to pass the time. His vigilance has saved his life.

When this accident happened, Shoaib and the bus driver jumped from the bus. As soon as the bus collided with the oil tanker, it caught fire and 42 Indians got injured. Apart from this, 45 passengers including two foreign assistants were sleeping, so they could not save their lives. Because the fire engulfed the bus within a moment.

Mohammad Tahseen, a close relative of Shoaib, who was waiting for information at the Haj House in Nampally, said, “We got a call from Shoaib around 5.30 in the morning, informing us that he somehow escaped the accident while everyone else got trapped in the flames. Later we got information that he has been admitted to the hospital, so we could not contact him.”

Consul General met Mr. Abdul Shoeb Mohammed, the lone survivor of the tragic bus accident near Madinah involving Indian Umrah Pilgrims, who is currently admitted in a hospital in Madinah.

Shoaib’s family members could not escape

Shoaib, a resident of Natrajnagar Colony in Jhirrah, Hyderabad, had gone to Saudi Arabia for Umrah along with his parents Abdul Qadir (56) and Gausia Begum (46), along with four others including his grandfather Mohammed Maulana and three other members of his uncle’s family.

His relative Tahseen said, “Four other people from his area had stayed in Mecca. Immediately after the accident, Shoaib called one of them and told him about the accident.” He told that Shoaib suffered injuries due to jumping from the bus and he is currently admitted in a German hospital in Madina.

Travelers were going to Medina after completing the rituals of Mecca.

The pilgrims had completed their Umrah rituals in Mecca and were going to Medina by bus when the accident occurred. All the passengers who died were from Hyderabad. Relatives of Haj pilgrims reached Haj House to inquire about the well being of their relatives traveling in the bus. Some people ran towards the offices of travel operators and officials with hope. But apart from Shoaib, no Indian passenger’s life has been saved.
