The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) of Bangladesh has sentenced former PM Sheikh Hasina to death. Haseena is currently in Delhi. The interim government has started working on 3 different fronts for the return of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
1. Demand for extradition of Hasina from India
After the verdict, Bangladesh’s legal advisor Professor Asif Nazrul said that he beautiful lady Will again write a letter to India for extradition. Shortly after his statement, the Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh wrote a letter to India. In this, a demand has been made to extradite Sheikh Hasina on the basis of the decision.
Nazrul said that if India continues to harbor this mass murderer, then India must understand that this is a hostile, extremely condemnable behavior against Bangladesh and the people of Bangladesh. Professor Nazrul is a well-known jurist, author and professor from Dhaka, who was appointed advisor to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs in the interim government of Bangladesh in August 2024.
2. Arrest warrant through Interpol
Interpol is an international police organization, whose purpose is to cooperate among 194 member countries for information and arrest of criminals. If Bangladesh wants to arrest Sheikh Hasina through Interpol, then it will adopt the process of issuing Red Corner Notice. Red Corner Notice is information about the international arrest of a person, which is sent to the police of the member countries.
However, to arrest someone in India, it is necessary to follow the procedure of Indian law and Constitution. The Indian government will decide whether Sheikh Hasina should be arrested and extradited to Bangladesh. Judicial permission is also necessary in this process. India cannot arrest anyone directly on the request of Interpol without the order of the High Court or the Supreme Court.
3. Bangladeshi NSA visit to Delhi
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will host his Bangladeshi counterpart Khalilur Rahman in Delhi next week. This meeting is considered important amid the current tension between the two neighboring countries. Rahman will lead the Bangladeshi delegation at the Colombo Security Conclave in India. This conclave will be held on November 1920.
