Violent protests in Mexico
According to media reports, protesters broke barricades around the National Palace in Mexico City, where President Claudia Sheinbaum lives, due to which police were also deployed on the spot. Police used tear gas. The crowd became furious due to the use of force and violence by the police. Mexico City Public Safety Secretary Pablo Vazquez said in a press conference that 100 police officers were injured, 40 of whom were hospitalized.
Arrested on 20th
He told local media outlet Milenio that 20 civilians were also injured. The Public Safety Secretary also said that 20 people were arrested and another 20 were referred for administrative offenses.
Why are people protesting?

With their shields and stones, they (security forces) attacked the youth demonstrating in the Zócalo, some of whom were injured and were helped by doctors and ERUM (Emergency Rescue and Medical Emergency Squadron), who were also marching themselves, El Universal reported.
People enraged by mayor’s murder
Sheinbaum, in power through October 2024, has maintained more than 70 percent popularity in her first year, but her security policy has come under criticism in the wake of several high-profile killings, including that of Carlos Manzo. Manzo was the mayor of the city of Uruapan in Michoacán, who was shot dead on November 1 as he led a campaign against drug trafficking gangs in his city.
