Army got magistrate power in Bangladesh.

On one hand, in Pakistan, preparations are being made to make Army Chief Asim Munir powerful and dictator. The power of the army has been increased in Bangladesh also. Yunus government of Bangladesh has given the power of magistrate to the army. That too at a time when the buzz of general elections is intense in Bangladesh.

According to Bangladeshi outlet Pratham Aalo, Bangladesh Army has also got the power of magistrate from the Yunus government. With this power, Bangladesh Army can take decisions on the spot.

Question- Why did the army get this power?

After the coup in Bangladesh, the army was given the power of magistrate. At that time the army was given this power to control violent incidents. Now that the preparations for elections have started in Bangladesh, there was talk of taking this power from the army, but the Yunus government has decided to extend it again till March 2026. General elections are proposed in Bangladesh only in March 2026.

The reason behind giving magistrate power to the army is the current situation in Bangladesh. Anarchy is widespread in many parts of Bangladesh. There have been reports of 3 blasts in the capital Dhaka in the last 2 days. These blasts in Dhaka have created tension for the Yunus government.

Yunus government does not want to take any kind of risk before the elections. Press Secretary of Yunus government says that Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League does not want to allow fair elections in Bangladesh. Yunus government has accused Hasina and her party of conspiring to spread violence in the coming days.

Army has been dominant in Bangladesh

Like Pakistan, the army has been dominant in Bangladesh also. Till now, military coups have taken place in Bangladesh on 6 occasions. Current army chief Waqar-Zaman is also accused of colluding with America to remove Sheikh Hasina from power.

Sheikh Hasina was overthrown after the student revolt in August 2024. After this an interim government was formed in Bangladesh. However, the army is still in a powerful position in Bangladesh.
