Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a 2-day visit to Bhutan, participated in the Global Peace Prayer Festival on Wednesday. Here Modi inaugurated the Kalachakra Empowerment Ceremony with Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and former King Jigme Singye Wangchuck. After the inauguration, the Prime Minister of India said – The Global Peace Prayer Festival is an important ritual for Buddhists around the world, which has great cultural significance. PM Modi further said that Kalachakra Abhishek is a part of this festival. Because of this festival, devotees and scholars of Buddhism have come together to Bhutan.

What is the Global Peace Prayer Festival?

This is an international Buddhist festival. This year it is being organized in Bhutan from 4th November to 19th November. Through this festival all Buddhist traditions (Theravada, Mahayana, Vajrayana etc.) are united together. People of all traditions following Buddhism participate in this festival.

In this festival, the enlightenment of Buddha and his remains are mentioned. People of Buddhist religion also pray together for global peace here. The King of Bhutan himself monitors this entire program.

Why is Modi’s Bhutan tour important?

Through this visit of Prime Minister Modi, India wants to further strengthen diplomatic relations with its neighboring country Bhutan. This visit of Modi is taking place at a time when India’s diplomatic relations are not going well with China, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

During his visit to Bhutan, Modi will attend the King’s 70th birthday celebrations. At the same time, many deals proposed between the two countries will also be finalized. In this series, energy cooperation and hydropower project will also be inaugurated. This is Punatsangchu-2 hydraulic project. Which is strategically important for both the countries.
