Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson’s trade deal stuckImage Credit source: PTI
Before the IPL retention, the issue of trade of Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja continues. After several days of discussions, a consensus appeared to be reached between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings regarding the exchange of these two star players. Both the franchises had started the official process regarding this trade but now suddenly this deal has come to a halt. The reason for this hindrance is the third player whom Rajasthan had included in this deal and now he has become a problem for them. This player is Sam Curran, whom Rajasthan neither has the money nor the space to buy in its squad.
No foreign quota for third player
After several days of discussions between Rajasthan and Chennai, the paperwork for this deal had started. It was believed that both the franchises had started the process of turning this deal into reality on Monday, November 10, but now suddenly it had to be stopped for the time being. A report in Cricbuzz has revealed that this has happened due to the inclusion of Sam Curran in the deal because there is no vacant foreign quota in Rajasthan’s squad for an England player.
In fact, it is clear in the rules of IPL that any franchise can have only 8 foreign players in its squad. In last year’s mega auction, Rajasthan had completed the quota of all its 8 players, which included players like Joffra Archer, Mahish Teekshana, Wanindu Hasaranga, Nandre Berger. In such a situation, Rajasthan currently has no vacancy for Sam Curran. In such a situation, Rajasthan will have to release one foreign player and it is believed that it could be one of Teekshana and Hasaranga.
Rajasthan also lacks money
But it is not just about the place for the foreign player, Rajasthan does not even have the money to buy Karan. The thing is that there is no problem in the exchange of Samson and Jadeja because both are Indian players and their price is Rs 18 crore each. But Rajasthan had demanded to include Karan also in this deal and for that the franchise will have to pay extra money. Karan was bought by Chennai for Rs 2.40 crore in the last auction, whereas Rajasthan has only Rs 30 lakh left after the last auction.
Then this deal will not happen?
However, there is still no risk of any kind on this deal as Rajasthan Royals will release the list of its released and retained players before the IPL retention deadline. But this deadline is on 15th November and it has been happening for the last many years that all the franchises announce their retention on ‘Deadline Day’ only. Now if Rajasthan wants to complete this deal as soon as possible, then it will have to announce its retained players in advance.
