After the removal of Sheikh Hasina government from power in August 2024, a big change was seen in the politics of Bangladesh. Pakistan was among the first countries which openly welcomed the interim government formed under the leadership of Mohammad Yunus. Since then, relations between Dhaka and Islamabad have grown closer.
On the other hand, a situation of tension is increasing in the relations between India and Bangladesh. The relations which were considered a symbol of strength and trust during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure, can now clearly feel the coldness in them. Experts believe that Pakistan is using this new equation to pursue anti-India strategies. At the same time, Bangladesh is unknowingly or knowingly becoming a pawn of this conspiracy.
Preparations to attack India through Bangladesh
Recently commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba Saifullah Saif A video went viral in which he had revealed that gangster Hafiz Saeed was planning an attack on India through Bangladesh. Revealing Hafiz Saeed’s plan, Saifullah said that Bangladesh is being used as a launch pad. Hafiz sent an associate to Bangladesh, who is inciting the local youth there in the name of Jihad and giving terrorist training.
Saifullah also mentioned Operation Sindoor. He said that now America is with us and Bangladesh is also coming closer to Pakistan. America had announced a reward of 10 million dollars on Hafiz in the year 2025. He has been active in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Punjab province for the last 5 years.
Expansion of airbase in Lalmonirhat
Despite India’s refusal, the Bangladesh government is expanding Lal Monirhat Air Base. This largest base of Bangladesh is located near the Chicken Neck Corridor of India. Under this expansion, new hangars and jet parking and radar system are being prepared at Lalmonirhat airbase. This expansion is happening at a time when India’s diplomatic relations with the Yunus government are not going well.
In response, India has also deployed military at 3 new places near the Assam border. The radar system of Monirhat airbase is very old. The radar system that is being installed here is China’s JSG-400 TDR radar system. Of all the weapons purchased by the Bangladesh government this year, 70% are Chinese.
Pakistani plane reaches Chittagong
Pakistan Navy’s warship PNS Saif reached Chittagong, Bangladesh for 4 days. It was called a goodwill mission, but the special thing is that during this time, Pakistani Navy Chief Navid Ashraf was also present in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. For the first time after the 1971 war, a warship from Pakistan had reached Bangladesh.
PNS Saif is built in China. It was commissioned in Pakistan Navy in 2010. This thing becomes more important for India, because China is not only Pakistan’s biggest defense partner, but is also increasing cooperation in naval cooperation with Bangladesh.
Maitri Express service not starting
In view of the ongoing protests and unrest in Bangladesh, Maitri Express was stopped indefinitely on 19 July 2024. Trains (Maitri Express and Bandhan Express) running between India and Bangladesh were initially canceled till 6 August 2024, but due to the current situation it was extended.
Due to the situation not being normal, the train service is still suspended. Indian officials said they are talking to Bangladeshi authorities and will not resume services until they receive a favorable response to running cross-border trains.
