On one hand, US President Donald Trump has recently talked about nuclear test. At the same time, now Russia has also said that it will also conduct nuclear test. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday that work has begun on preparing a proposal for a possible Russian nuclear test on the instructions of President Vladimir Putin.

Lavrov said, President Putin’s directive has been accepted for implementation at the Security Council meeting on November 5 and work on it is underway. This step comes after the announcement in which US President Donald Trump said last week that Washington would start nuclear testing again. This decision has further complicated the already tense relations between the two nuclear powers – America and Russia.

Putin ordered test

Amid continued uncertainty over US intentions, President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday instructed senior officials to prepare a proposal on the possibility of Russia conducting a nuclear test in response to any possible US test.

Russia has not conducted any nuclear test since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Together with America, it maintains the world’s largest nuclear stockpile.

Russia warned US

On Friday, Russia urged the US to clarify recent statements made by President Donald Trump regarding possible resumption of nuclear tests. Russia warned that such a step could provoke serious reactions from other countries. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova gave this statement during a press briefing in Moscow on Friday.

Tension in US-Russia relations

Lavrov said that Moscow has not received any official explanation from the US regarding Trump’s order. There has been a sharp decline in relations between Russia and America in recent weeks. Trump has canceled the proposed summit meeting with Putin and has also imposed new sanctions on Moscow over the ongoing war in Ukraine.
