Indian Women Team: Indian women’s team achieved the honor of becoming champion by defeating South Africa in the final match of Women’s ODI World Cup at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The team was waiting for this for a long time. The Indian team achieved this position after a long struggle of 52 years. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has played an important role in this success of the team. Who changed the fortunes of the women’s team by adopting many methods. During this period the board provided many facilities to the women’s team.
BCCI did this work
before 2006 Indian women’s team The condition was very bad. Women’s cricket was governed by the Women’s Cricket Association of India (WCAI). During this period, the women’s team used to get very less facilities, but as soon as BCCI took the lead, the fate of women’s cricket changed. In 2006, when BCCI took over women’s cricket, the story of real change began.
Former Indian captain during an interview Mithali Raj Told that in the year 2005, there was the final of the Women’s World Cup, then each cricketer of the team got only Rs 8,000 for the entire tournament. That means only Rs 1000 for every match. He told that we did not have any annual contract at that time. Before coming to BCCI, we neither got match fees nor any financial security. We had to travel by train, but BCCI took some steps which changed the days of women’s cricket.
BCCI took a historic decision
In October 2022, BCCI took a historic decision. In this, it was decided to pay equal match fees to women players like men’s cricketers. After this the women players got encouragement to perform well. Apart from this, BCCI took many other steps.
Other than this National Cricket Academy Special training started being given to women cricketers in (NCA), Bengaluru. It has world-class pitches (grass, artificial and indoor), gym, video analysis classes and special training for batting, bowling and fielding. Women players have benefited a lot from this.
Special academy for women players
Apart from this, BCCI has established special academies for women at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, DDCA in Delhi and MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. These include floodlit practice grounds and simulators. The state cricket association (Mumbai Cricket Association) provides nets and other modern facilities for women cricketers at local grounds.
