After 30 days of exciting matches and some surprising results, the finalists of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 have finally been decided. India and South Africa will compete for the title in the final to be held at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday 2 November. The final was sealed with Team India’s historic and world record win against defending champion Australia in the second semi-final. With this it was decided that after a long wait of 25 years, women’s cricket would get a new champion.

The World Cup started on 30 September with the match between India and Sri Lanka in Guwahati and now the second semi-final of the tournament was played on 30 October at DY Patil Stadium. Here Australia batted first and scored a big score of 338 runs. But on the basis of Jemimah Rodriguez’s record century and captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s memorable innings, Team India won the match by 5 wickets and made it to the finals. In the finals, Team India will face South Africa on Sunday, which had earlier defeated England in the semi-finals.

Team India has reached the World Cup final for the third time. Before this, it had played its last final in 2017, whereas India first came close to winning the World Cup in 2005. However, the Indian team had to face defeat in both the last finals. In 2005, it was defeated by Australia, whereas in 2017, Team India was defeated by England after coming very close to victory. South Africa has reached the World Cup final for the first time. Earlier in 2017 and 2022, both times it had to face defeat from South Africa. But this time under the captaincy of Laura Woolworth, the African team equalized its score.

This time the final is also special because women’s cricket is going to get a new champion. After a long wait of 25 years, a new champion will be decided in the Women’s World Cup final. Earlier, this had happened in the World Cup 2000, when New Zealand won the title for the first and only time by defeating Australia in the final. Before that and even after that, only Australia and England had won all the titles. In this way, world cricket is going to get its fourth champion team.

This is only the second final in senior cricket between India and South Africa. The last final was played between India and South Africa in the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, where India won the title. As far as women’s cricket is concerned, there was a clash between India and South Africa in the Under-19 T20 World Cup this year, in which India won the title. In such a situation, this will be the third World Cup final between India and South Africa in about one and a half years. As far as this World Cup is concerned, there was a clash between the two teams in the league stage, in which South Africa registered a thrilling victory.
